Wills Point 7
The Wills Point Tigers and the Van Vandals battled in a district contest on Tuesday Night. The Vandals got on the board first after drawing 4 walks in the top half of the 1st inning. Spencer Shinn hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Ross Hendricks and Easton Hinch scored in the inning as well to give Van a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Wills Point answered back after Jayson Sline was hit by a pitch and Kameron Stuart doubled. Malakai Salinas brought them both home with a 2 run single to tie the game at 2 runs a piece after 1 inning. In the top of the 2nd inning, a couple of errors by the Tigers, loaded up the bases for the Vandals. Logan Smith brought in 2 runs with a sacrifice fly to center field and another run was added on an error and the Vandals led 5-2. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Wills Point responded again after Hunter Smith led the inning off with a walk, and Hayden Smith brought him home with an RBI double. Hayden Smith scored on an RBI single by Kameron Stuart and after 2 innings, Van’s lead was 5-4. The 3rd inning was scoreless for both teams, and in the top of the 4th inning, Van opened the flood gates. The inning began with Colten Grier hitting a single. Logan Smith followed with a 2 run homerun to left field. 12 Vandals in total came to the plate in the top of the inning and Van scored 8 runs on 3 hits, and were aided by 2 Tiger errors in the inning to take a 13-4 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Kody Alexander doubled for the Tigers and Kameron Stuart reached base with a walk. Ethan Perez came up and hit a 3 run homerun to cut the Vandal lead to 13-7 after 4. Van would add 2 more runs. One in the 5th inning on a sacrifice fly by Asher Hawkins and one in the 6th on an RBI single by Logan Smith. The Van Vandals took the win 15-7. Leading the way for the Vandals was Logan Smith. He was 2-3 at the plate, but reached base 4 out of his 5 at bats, with 5 RBI’s. For Wills Point, Kameron Stuart reached base in 4 of his 5 at bats with an RBI and Ethan Perez had 3 RBI’s with his homerun.
