Another case of animal cruelty is being investigated in Wood County.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office received several calls in reference to the same Yantis property and upon investigation twelve horses were seized. The Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society rescued the animals from the property on County Road 1987.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, recent temperatures along with the economy and low horse prices are leading to an increase in animal cruelty cases and the department anticipates more seizures in the near future.

Friday’s seizure was the second in three weeks in Wood County.
