Lindale Independent School District teachers Heidi Aubuchon and Kristine Brown were honored Wednesday as regional nominees for the 2014 Texas Teacher of the Year.
Aubuchon and Brown were recognized during a special ceremony at the Region 7 Education Service Center in Kilgore. Both teachers received Lindale ISD’s teacher of the year honors. Aubuchon is the district’s elementary teacher of the year and Brown is LISD’s secondary teacher of the year. The district winners are nominated annually for the regional award.
Aubuchon is a second grade teacher at Velma Penny Elementary School. She has taught in the Lindale ISD for 16 years. She has served the district as a first grade and second grade teacher, previously working at Lindale Primary School. Aubuchon is LISD’s 2nd Grade Team Leader and has worked with at-risk students. She is also a member of the Campus Improvement Committee and serves as a mentor teacher. She has been recognized as the Brookshire’s Teacher of the Month and is a member of the Lindale ISD Education Foundation’s Honor Roll.
“I work alongside a district of teachers that tirelessly serve their students, with love and dedication, in the hope that they are daily making a difference for each of them,” Aubuchon said. “Rarely does anyone receive the recognition they deserve for all the time and effort put into such an endeavor. But the gratification you gain seeing students learn and grow, even at times in the form of baby steps, is personally, very satisfying. To be honored as the 2013-2014 Lindale ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is like icing on the cake. I am humbled and blessed by this honor.”
Kristine Brown has taught at Lindale Junior High School since 2005. She has worked as a seventh and eighth grade English/Languages Arts Teacher. Brown is a member of the LJHS leadership team that is training through the George W. Bush Institute’s Middle School Matters program. She has also served LISD as a member of the District Improvement Team, Parent/Community Communications Committee, and Campus Action Team. Brown has also worked as the English/Language Arts Professional Learning Team Leader and the 7th Grade Academic Team Leader.
She has been recognized as a top 10 Distinguished Educator by the Lindale ISD Education Foundation and has also won the Brookshire’s Teacher of the Month award.
“I am both humbled and overwhelmed with gratitude to be chosen as LISD Secondary Teacher of the Year,” Brown said. “It is an honor to be associated with the gifted group of Lindale educators who have been selected as nominees in previous years."
Brown and Aubuchon were joined at the Region 7 ESC recognition ceremony by Lindale ISD Superintendent Stan Surratt, Lindale ISD Deputy Superintendent Jamie Holder and Velma Penny Elementary School Principal Monica Moore. Brown and Aubuchon were presented with certificates during the ceremony.
“Lindale ISD is known for having wonderful teachers and these are two of our finest,” Superintendent Stan Surratt said. “We are proud they have represented Lindale ISD at the regional level. We hope their dedication and commitment to student learning continues to shine as examples of achievement to our staff, students and in the community.”
