Saxon and Associates, Inc. Auctions, the longest running auction in the State of Texas, has come home to Big sandy Texas and will host a Grand Re-Opening celebration sale this Saturday, April 27 at 6:30pm in their new facility located at 310 West Broadway Street (Highway 80), formerly the Double D Sausage Company building. A ribbon cutting will take place at 5:30pm.
The Grand Opening celebration sale will feature Early American and European antiques, fine-quality furniture, china, porcelain signs, jewelry, lamps, guns, clocks, tools, glassware, coins, and other highly sought-after collectibles. After the Grand Opening sale, Saxon and Associates will continue to host a weekly auction at the new location every Saturday night at 6:30pm.
The auction started in Big Sandy in 1969 by Cecil Bishop on Gilmer Street with 10 people in attendance bringing $136 in total sales. Cecil and his wife Beth Bishop were also instrumental in developing the marketing for Gladewater Texas as being known as the Antique Capital of East Texas. The couple grew the auction and the antique and collectibles community in East Texas from their base in the Big Sandy Area.
Beth continued the Auction after Cecil’s death until nearly 20 years ago when she passed the gavel to Joe and Vickie Dee Saxon. She has since passed away, but the Saxon’s continued to grow the auction 6 miles east on Highway 80 just outside Hawkins until the 44th anniversary sale, which was held March 16, 2013 to a standing-room-only crowd of more than 150.
The new facility in Big Sandy will have more space for auction seating and larger food area for Joe Saxon’s famous home-cooked dinner specials, homemade ice cream and desserts served before each Saturday night auction, along with the regular auction-house foods.
Known as the longest running auction in the state of Texas, Saxon and Associates hosts a weekly antiques and estates auction in Big Sandy, Texas Saturdays at 6:30pm.
