State Representative Bryan Hughes co-authored a bill this week to protect Texas from unconstitutional Federal attacks on Second Amendment Rights.
"Everybody is nervous about what the Fed's are going to be doing," said Rep. Hughes. "House Bill 553 says if the Federal Government passes a law that infringes on the Second Amendment we're going to make it against the law to enforce that law in Texas."
Another East Texas State Representative introduced a bill Thursday that would allow Texans to openly carry handguns in public places. George Lavender's bill would allow people with concealed handgun licenses to carry their weapons in plain sight.
"If the person we're talking about has had a background check then why shouldn't they be able to carry their gun openly? That's idea behind the bill," said Rep. Hughes. "We have to make sure we get the details right but I think the concept makes sense and I think there's going to be a lot of support for that bill."
The 83rd Texas Legislative Session will resume Monday.
