An abandoned home caught fire and burned to the ground this afternoon between Mineola and Golden.

The house sat in the middle of a wooded property off of FM 1799.

Chris Young lives on the property and called the Mineola Fire Department.

“My son and I were walking the property when we heard something,” said Young. We ran toward the house and it was on fire.”

Young said the home hasn’t had utilities or electricity hooked up in years.

Mineola and Quitman Fire Departments responded to the scene. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

No one was injured in the blaze.
