A Hawkins man has been sentenced to life in prison for felony Indecency with a Child.

According to the Wood County District Attorney’s Office, a Wood County jury found 44 year-old Perry Wayne Jerden guilty of the offense.

“Mr. Jerden was accused of having an inappropriate or improper sexual contact with a little girl,” said Wood County Assistant District Attorney Angela Converse.

Today, in a Wood County court, the jury handed down the life sentence.

“It was a very difficult case to listen to so I want to compliment the citizens of Wood County that served on the jury,” said Converse.

“We think that the verdict was just. We think that the evidence supported the verdict and we also feel that the sentence was appropriate.”

Jerden, a habitual offender, had been confined in the state penitentiary on three prior occasions for three prior felony charges.

Jim Wheeler, Criminal District Attorney with Assistant District Attorney Angela Converse assisting, led the prosecution.

Judge Timothy Boswell presided.
