The Mayors of two Texas towns have made a wager regarding the 3A Division 1 High School Football State Championship.
Yoakum Mayor Annie Rodriquez proclaimed her confidence in the Yoakum Bulldogs by offering a State Championship wager with Rodney T. Watkins, Mayor of Mineola, who eagerly accepted the challenge.
“The Yellowjackets are in the driver’s seat”, said Mayor Watkins because they have proven themselves against the best teams in Texas. “Let’ not forget the Bulldogs were 2-4 at mid-season”, Mayor Annie responded, “There is tremendous resolve”.
Mayor Annie is betting a sampler pack of all Natural beef from Yoakum-based Augustus Ranch. Texas Monthly described the all-natural beef program of Augustus Ranch as “innovative and astoundingly good”. The $250 package contains strip, ribeye, and tenderloin steak; skirt, flank, and flat iron steaks; Chuck roast, stew meat, and ground beef.
Not to be outdone, Mayor Watkins responded with an overnight package for two, beginning with an Amtrak Texas Eagle rail trip (donated by local revenue management team) which includes sleeper and meals from Austin to Mineola. After a night at the historic Munzesheimer Manor bed and breakfast and a walking tour of historic downtown Mineola, the couple will be treated breakfast from famous Kitchens Hardware & Deli, lunch at the acclaimed East Texas Burger Company, and dinner by award winning Cowburners BBQ. Value of the package exceeds $500.
The Yellowjackets will meet the Bulldogs Thursday evening at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the 3A Division 1 championship.
