30 horses were seized from a Wood County Property Monday afternoon.

After two years of investigating, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department seized the malnourished horses from a property on County Road 1960 by Highway 154 in Yantis. According to the sheriff’s department it was clear the animals had not been fed and had not had much experience with humans. Several carcasses were found on the property as well. The horses that were saved are currently receiving extensive treatment.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a call about a 9-month old filly lying on the ground. When authorities arrived on scene they found the horse underneath a pile of hay. It is believed that this was done in an attempt to hide the animal.

The owner of the horses, Linda Hurley, cannot be found and an arrest warrant has been issued for animal cruelty.
