After a successful first run of the East Texas Medical Outreach program in June, 2013, Representative Dan Flynn (R-Van) is pleased to announce its return on June 2nd, 2014, at Van Junior High School, running through Friday, June 6th. This event offers free preventative and primary care to uninsured East Texans. Running 12 hours a day, licensed physicians and nurses will be on site to administer multiple screenings, perform physicals and advise on healthy lifestyle choices such as healthy eating and not smoking.
Services that will be provided are as follows:
Medical exams – Health Screenings (blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar, cholesterol) – Dental exams – Student Physicals – Hearing Tests – Mental Health Services – Immunizations (records required) – Mammography Services.
Dental services will require a pre-screening, held on June 2nd & June 4th only. A limited number of dental patients will be treated and will be asked to return the following day. Treatment will be limited to fillings and extractions.
Registration will begin at 8 AM each day and will conclude at noon on Friday, June 6th.
This program not only provides quality health care to uninsured East Texans, it also promotes healthy living by educating participants on healthy eating, physical fitness, living a healthy lifestyle free of tobacco use and following the advice of your doctor after each yearly checkup.
Dan Flynn with health Operation Lone Star is a collaborative medical services project that unites state and county health and human service agencies, Texas Military Forces, local service groups and volunteers in the largest public health humanitarian effort in the country. Operation Lone Star is a real-time, large-scale emergency preparedness exercise that provides medical service and disaster recovery training to state agencies and personnel while addressing the medical needs of thousands of under served Texas residents.
“Operation Lone Star provides such an enormous level of support to Texans. Their efforts are tremendous and the work they do has such a positive impact on the communities they touch, I am honored to welcome them back to House District 2 for another week of service and outreach,”said Representative Flynn, who currently serves as Colonel in the Texas State Guard. He will be actively assisting with the execution and organization of this operation for the duration.
In addition to Van ISD, partners for the outreach include the University of Texas at Tyler School of Nursing, UT Health Northeast Family Medicine Residency Program, NET Health, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Military Forces, Piney Woods Regional Advisory Council Trauma Service Area-G, Texas A&M University, Baylor College of Dentistry, Andrews Center, Tyler Junior College and many other local community organizations.
