Released by CASA for Kids of East Texas

The countdown has begun to the Justice is Served annual fundraiser for Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Kids of East Texas, and CASA is asking for anyone with a love of children to consider attending this event which raises money to help train volunteers who advocate in the courts for the abused and neglected children of East Texas.

This year’s Justice is Served charity event will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, at the Green Acres Baptist Church Crosswalk Conference Center, 1607 Troup Hwy. The evening will include live entertainment, food from an array of local restaurants and cafes, and a silent auction. Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased online at or at the CASA office located at 318 E. Fifth St.

CASA board members are also selling raffle tickets for a chance to win one of two seven-day vacation getaways to Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas. A limited number of tickets will be sold and some are still available. Tickets are $20 each or 6 for $100. They are also available for purchase at the CASA office. The winner need not be present to win.

CASA is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide trained volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children involved in the courts of Smith, Wood and Van Zandt Counties, with a goal of achieving a permanent living arrangement for each child, which will serve that child's best interest.

“A very serious concern for all citizens and community partners should be why child abuse continues to escalate and what can be done to slow down this life-threatening trend,” said Patty Garner, CASA executive director. “CASA for Kids of East Texas, as endorsed by the 321st District Court, is an important component in the proactive solution of breaking the cycle of child abuse.”
