Released by the Smith County Sheriff's Office
Acting on a tip from the Lindale Police Department, the Smith County Sheriff's Narcotics, Criminal Investigation, K9 and Patrol Divisions initiated surveillance on Lavender Road approximately ½ mile north of Loop 323. The surveillance was initiated at approximately 4 p.m. subsequent to information being received that Adam Bowers was in that area. Bowers was wanted on two armed robbery warrants and an aggravated assault warrant. These warrants were out of Lindale PD, Tyler PD and Smith County Sheriff's Office respectively.
At approximately 5:40 p.m. today, Smith County Sheriff's Office surveillance units observed Bowers enter the woods behind a mobile home park. At that time, a Smith County K-9 unit and two deputies entered the wooded area in an attempt to track the suspect. Additional Sheriff's Office units as well as personnel from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Texas Rangers, DPS Troopers, Precinct 5 Constables Office and Lindale PD captured and arrested 34-year-old Adam Heath Bowers after a manhunt north of Tyler between Highway 14 and County Road 35. The DPS helicopter from their air unit also responded and was instrumental in locating Bowers in a wooded area and led officers on the ground to his location. Bowers was taken into custody without further incident. Bowers was wanted in conjunction with recent robberies at a Dollar Store and a Wal Mart.
Bowers was apprehended after an hour and a half manhunt, according to Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith. Sheriff Smith praised the cooperation of the many different agencies that participated in this event. He stated that they operated very efficiently and effectively together in this difficult situation.
The Lindale Police Department had issued an arrest warrant related to an Armed Robbery at the Lindale Wal Mart, which occurred on January 14, an aggravated assault where Bowers allegedly fired shots at an individual off Highway 64 West in Smith County and the Tyler Police Department obtained an arrest warrant on Bowers for Aggravated Robbery on a case from a robbery at a Family Dollar in Tyler, which occurred on January 13.
Bowers will be charged and booked in to the Smith County Jail.
