A Wednesday house fire in Van Zandt County left a father and his teenager daughter homeless.
According to Van Zandt County Fire Marshal Chuck Allen, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday a structure fire was reported on State Highway 19, just south of US Highway 80 in Edgewood. Units with the Edgewood, Fruitvale and South Van Zandt Fire Departments responded to the blaze. The residence belongs to Tommy Pritchett of Edgewood. No one was home at the time of the fire.
Allen says Pritchett lived with his teenage daughter, who was at school at the time of the fire. The fire began in the Pritchett’s bedroom, and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Pritchett stated that he had been having electrical issues in the bedroom and had not had time to get it checked. Fire Departments were able to save a large storage building and another residence, which sat less than fifty feet away from the burning residence.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
