A Rains County man wanted in the shooting death of his grandmother is in custody.
According to Rains County Sheriff David Traylor, Brandon Paul Couch was found in a wooded area near Point around 10 p.m. last night after fleeing from authorities late yesterday afternoon.
"A DPS helicopter was called in and after eight minutes after 10 p.m. they detected some heat on CR1402 and FM 2737," said Sheriff Traylor. "They observed him crouched down and after lighting him up and doing commands on the PA system he surrendered himself and was taken into custody without any further incident."
Sheriff Traylor said Brandon Couch is the only person of interest in the shooting that killed his grandmother, 78-year-old Mattie Couch in the 500 block of CR 1421 in Point.
"There has been a little violence in the past between them."
Mattie’s son found her dead in her residence after 3 p.m. yesterday with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The Sheriff's Office says they believe there was a witness to the shooting. Authorities say that individaul is being questioned as a witness today.
Brandon Paul Couch has been charged with Capital Murder.
