Local neighborhoods and emergency responders will gather tonight all over East Texas in honor of Texans Against Crime.
The Texans Against Crime program is an annual event designed to unite neighbors and communities to encourage neighborhood communication, community involvement and crime prevention to create safer neighborhoods. The T.A.C. program encourages neighborhoods and businesses to host block parties as an opportunity to get to know your neighbors and fight crime.
Block parties will be held in cities across the region and all over the state.
The city of Mineola has 7 registered locations. Hosting in Mineola; Wood Memorial Nursing Home, Walmart, Northside Baptist Church on Highway 37, John and Jackie Lemon on Jan Street, Don and Margaret Lay on Pamela Street, The corner of Lakeside place and Spring Lake Drive, Meals on Wheels, and St Paul Baptist Church.
The Tyler Police Department has 95 registered block parties for tonight.
Last year the City of Tyler had approximately 90 block parties throughout the City to promote the program. These totals do not include the businesses in the City who are participating throughout the day.
The block parties will take place from 6 –10 p.m.
