Dear Mrs. Hightower and Family,

We were so sorry to learn that Jason lost his battle with cancer. Our sympathy goes out to you and your children. With heartfelt sorrow we want you to know you and your family will be in our prayers.

Anyone who had ever met or had any dealings with Jason knew he was a wonderful person. He will be greatly missed. We can rest assured that Jason will have a place with Jesus and you can all look forward to someday seeing him again.  Just hold tight to all your sweet memories of Jason the husband, Jason the father and he will never leave you because he will always be right there in your heart. I truly believe that those we love never completely leave us, that some essence of them remains behind with us, I like to think that it is their love that remains.

There is nothing right now that anyone can say that will make the pain of this loss any easier for you all to bear, I know because I have lost loved ones to death also,  but believe me when I tell you that though time can not take away the pain completely gradually it will present you with lighter shades of it so that it becomes an easier burden to carry. Then when you think of your sweet memories instead of bringing you tears they will bring you only smiles. Hang on through this your darkest hours and know that those clouds will part one day to let the sun come streaming through for you again.  We pray that the Lord will send his Angels to stand beside you and give you strength not only for you but for your children also. May God Wrap his arms about your little family and hold you all warmly to his heart. God bless you all.

Sincerely,

Linda & Matt

I am stunned. Jason was one of my favorite people in East Texas Radio. To be so young, so smart, and so full of love for the industry is something you rarely find these days. The last time I saw him was at last year?s TAB, when he inducted Rusty Reynolds. I had no idea he was ill. He had such grace. I will sorely miss him.

Seeing your picture.... healthy and happy has brought tears to my eyes and heart. I am thinking....What a major loss to this community, your family and friends.  Jason I just knew in my heart that you were going to conquer this. I have prayed for you, believing in your complete recovery, every day for the past five years. My heart is so sad that you could not recover from this dread disease.

Jason, in your short life you have made such major impact on so many lives. Pam Thurman told me you had a birthday coming up the end of the month and I was already formularizing in my mind a giant Birthday Card from the city of Mineola to you while your were recuperating.....God had other plans.  Heart felt sympathy to Ingrid and the kids, Jason's family and all those who worked with him, either on the job or whatever KMOO was a major part of....like Miracle Children's Network, etc.  Saw Julie Oaks today at Wal-Mart and they were doing a fund raiser for the Children's Miracle Network....we talked about what a major impact KMOO and Jason had in the success of Wood County's part in it.  Your prayer believing partner and a friend who loved and appreciated you very much.

Heard Your Song Tonight (3/21/09) on the GRAND OLE OPRY --HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN--Sung by Vince Gill-- My prayers and care go out to the family. If there is anything, but anything that I could do to make it easier for the family please let me know. He was a very nice man and I only had the opportunity to meet him once for a position with KMOO and I remember the humor and I will always remember him that way.

Jesus traveled the length and breadth of the land, preaching and declaring the good news of the kingdom of God.? (Luke 8:1) Jesus also performed many powerful works feeding the crowds, taming the elements, curing the sick, and raising the dead. By means of these miracles, Jesus proved that God can undo all the damage and suffering that resulted from the Edenic rebellion and thus break up the works of the Devil. (1 John 3:8)  Without question the best encouragement that can be given to bereaved persons is from God’s Word. The Bible gives the most satisfying answer to the question: Why do men die, and what hope is there for the dead?? In this way Bible truth helps to lessen the sorrow and grief. It gives hope, and hope aids the mourner to keep from losing control of himself.

Such Bible knowledge removes the apprehension one might feel from not knowing what has become of his loved one. Through the pages of the Bible the Creator enlightens one as to what hope there is for the dead to have life once again. Acts 24:15; John 5:28, 29.  Because of the wonderful hope of the resurrection, a Christian is not overwhelmed with tears and grief. His sorrow is not as great or as deep as that upon those who have no knowledge of the hope the Bible gives. Notice what the apostle Paul says about this: ?Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant concerning those who are sleeping in death; that you may not sorrow just as the rest also do who have no hope. For if our faith is that Jesus died and rose again, so, too, those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus God will bring with him. For this is what we tell you by Jehovah’s word . . . Consequently keep comforting one another with these words.1 Thess. 4:13-15, 18.  Those who mourn the death of loved ones can find strength in God by turning to him in prayer. God can supply the curative comfort that is needed. Going to God, along with seeking to learn and to do his will, will certainly bring healing to the aching heart. 86:6, 7.  Much love and sincerely I pray for your family.

To Ingrid, kids, and family, Jason was a beacon of light in this dark world. He did more in his shortened life for others than most people do in a lifetime. His magnetic charm, encouraging words, generous giving, and silly laugh are treasures we will miss.  We met Jason through the Children's Miracle Network in 2001, when our son, Jeffrey, was the Miracle Child that year. Jeffrey has always had a special place in his heart for Jason and Kenny. From the first time they met, Jason took time to make Jeffrey feel important and was always glad to hear of the good reports we got from the doctors. Every year Jason was faithful to contribute the large donations from his kind listeners at the CMN telethon. He was so proud of his community for sharing so much. But we were so proud of Jason to remain faithful to our cause. He believes in children, and that's so important in today's world. We loved Jason for being such a kind friend.  May the Lord bring comfort for your sorrow and loss.

I never met Jason face to face, but he seemed to be a man of strong convictions. Strong feelings about his family, friends, community activities, and God. When he was boycotting the '08 Olympics I thought 'this man is serious about his beliefs of right and wrong'. I pray that his wife, family, and friends will often remind his children just what type of life he lived while with us. My sympathies go to Jason’s family.  Jason was a great person. A few months ago we found out my husband, Jimmy, has prostate cancer.  When Jason found out, he walked up to us and gave each of us a hug.  He said I am fighting brain cancer and I haven’t given up. Just leave everything in the Lord’s hands and don’t give up.  And we did just that. My husband’s cancer is in remission. Our love goes out to Jason and all his family.  Bea and Jimmy Horrocks  .  Seize the day; never have regrets; stay close to your family and friends  Oh, I am so sad for that Jason has lost his battle but truly grieve for those who remain and are sad. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for all of us and that we must all believe that somehow this was the plan for Jason. He was one of the brethren who gave me a blessing at my confirmation and I will always treasure that moment and remember him. Deep condolences to the entire family. This is a sad time for all.

Our deepest sympathy to Ingrid, Brazos, Hallie Grace & Wyatt. Also to Don, Patricia & Amy. To all the Hansen's and the KMOO family:  We are so sorry for your loss. Jason will be missed by all who knew him and all who are in the KMOO radio fan base. As a husband, father & business man, Jason has always been a true leader. As a Christian, we know in our hearts that he is in a much better place, but those of us who knew him will have a huge void in our everyday life.  We were all blessed to know Jason. Our loss is heaven's gain. You are all in our prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Hightower family. I have a daughter at Harmony High School. We were blessed to get to meet Jason at a ‘remote’ in Mineola when our friend opened a restaurant as well as at the school when he was working with the radio team in Ag.  What an Awesome man! His contribution in his short life has left a lasting memory in many people’s hearts!

Ingrid and family,

Wow. When we think about Jason, the first phrase that comes to mind is ‘Proud Fellow Aggie.’  We actually met Jason for the first time at some function right after they moved back here. As only Aggies can do, we spotted each others' Aggie Rings and thus began our conversation. To me, Jason epitomizes everything that Texas A & M stands for: honor, loyalty and integrity. I never really understood the concept of the ‘Aggie family’ while I was actually there; it was and is in the past several years that I have come to appreciate the camaraderie and spirit of family that being a fellow Aggie inspires in many of us, including and especially Jason. I can't remember there ever being a time when we saw or spoke to Jason, that he didn't ask about our family or that he didn't mention something about Texas A & M. I know that Kelly and Jason had a conversation or two (jokingly, of course!) regarding Aggieland as the only ‘schooling’ that they as dads would pay for their kids (And don't even mention that ‘Other’ school in Austin as an option!)

I don't think Jason ever met a stranger or someone that he couldn't find something in common with--that's the kind of man he was. He was someone who touched everyone with whom he came into contact with his friendly, open and positive attitude. He was a ‘giver;’ one who didn't care what he got in return, only that he contributed.  Back when we first started the Former Students Scholarship, I would inevitably get a call from Jason just about every January saying, ‘Hey, you sending any good Quitman kids to A & M this fall? I need names so we can help 'em out!’ In fact, Jason was one of the leaders in revitalizing our local Aggie club. I don't think he ever missed a ‘Muster’ since they had been back (although I do remember a time or two that he was a few minutes late!), and his presence will be missed this year. I have no doubt that at this year's Muster event on April 21, every voice will answer ‘Here’ at the calling of his name. He will be missed greatly.

Brazos, Hallie Grace and Wyatt, know that your dad was a great man who touched many lives during his time here on this Earth. He will be looking down on you from Heaven and cheering you on throughout all your lives. Follow his example and lead an upstanding and service-oriented life. Honor his memory by showing your love for each other, your family and your fellow-man, just as he did.

All our love and prayers,

Kelly and Dana Hamrick

I just want Jason's family to know that we are thinking about them and praying for them. I know his legacy will live on through Ingrid and their beautiful children.  I knew Jason but really didn't have that personal of a relationship with him. I was in College Station at the same time he was and listened to him on the radio there and it was comforting in a way to know that he was from ‘home’. Also, I worked with his sister and felt like I knew him through her. Then just seeing him around the community at the Wood County Jr Livestock Show, and advertising for C & M on KMOO and when my mom ran for tax collector I got to know him better. He always acted like he was glad to see me and my family wherever we saw him. He was interested in what Skylar was doing and always remembered what was going on in our lives. I really appreciate that. Jason will be missed but I feel like we will see him again. I think he would not want us to be sad. He would want us to celebrate his ‘Graduation to Glory’!

For Ingrid, the children, and KMOO Crew:

I am saddened by the death of Jason. Jason’s life will be remembered by many because of his contributions to others in the community, his profession, and the legacy of KMOO. I was quite happy when I discovered I was going to a community served by a radio station owned and managed by an Aggie. He will be missed, and he will be remembered for all the good he accomplished during his life through his profession and his craft- radio broadcasting. He personified the best of his profession and his work demonstrated it.  My prayers and thoughts are with Ingrid, the children, and the KMOO crew.

Thanks for letting us listen to his favorite music!!!  With all of the problems we have here on this earth, I hate to imagine what task our Heavenly Father has for Jason. For Him to call Jason home from the important work he was doing here on earth with his family and the rest of us, there must really be a serious situation and concern in Heaven for the future.

As friends and extended family we will all miss Jason very much, but on the positive side I can?t think of a better man for Heavenly Father to send anywhere to work on anything than Jason. A bright light has gone out here on earth, but I still have that warm feeling in my heart knowing that he will be watching over all of us and helping to guide us through the future.  In the 15 years we have known Jason I have never heard him say anything bad about anyone, or heard anyone say anything bad about him. He was one of the most giving and caring young men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and I have always considered it a honor to call him friend.

May God bless and keep his family, friends and loved ones and let us cherish and remember the short time we had here with him and look forward to the time when we will see him again.  George and Marlene Keahey

Jason started his radio career at KWNS in Winnsboro as one of our high school interns. Of course, being from Winnsboro, I knew Jason, but I really got to know him and enjoy him so much better during that time. We had some great times and many laughs during that time. Jason, Kenny Smith, and our GM, John Gore used to keep us all in stitches and as a young mother of two, I always wished I had half of Jason's energy. As Jason went off to A & M, got married, and then came back and purchased KMOO, and began a family, I always knew he was going to succeed. There was just something about Jason that said he would succeed in life. One the biggest successes are the positive impact that he had on so many people. I believe that everyone that knew Jason feels as I do, even though his time here was short, and we would have wanted that time to be so much longer, I am blessed for having known him. My prayers and love go to Ingrid and the  kids, Patricia, Don and Amy and their family as well as the Hanson and KMOO  family. You will be in our thoughts and prayers for a very long time.  I loved Jason and will miss him so much!

To Ingrid and the kids, and Don and Patricia,  Words are inadequate to express the loss suffered when God chose to bring Jason home. He always exemplified true Christian values in the way he ran his life and his community involvement. It was always a pleasure stopping by KMOO to visit because Jason would honestly express interest in my family and share the obvious love he had for his family. In running for public office, I valued Jason's and David's combined insight in how political campaigns were run. They both were interested in the process and in keeping their listeners informed. I shared with Jason the fact that I considered it an honor to have served in public office under his father's leadership and subsequently succeeding him in office. Jason would just smile and nod in agreement always saying that he had been raised by the best. Although we all suffer because of our combined loss, we must remember that we all benefited by sharing God's world with the likes of Jason and that the day will come that we will meet again. You will be missed dearly.

To the family of Jason Hightower, please accept our deepest sympathy. I had the privilege of getting to know Jason when I was superintendent of schools at Harmony ISD. Jason was a class individual, a great guy. He was always very supportive of our school and community. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. My dad was only 38 yrs. old when he died of cancer so I can somewhat relate to what the children are going through at this time. Be thankful for the time you were able to spend with your dad, cherish the memories, and rest assured that he is in a better place where there is no pain or suffering. I have had the great pleasure of knowing Jason for almost 11 years now.  I moved to Wood County to be the 4-H Agent - only a few weeks after he purchased K M DOUBLE O (as it was under Sam Curry). Quickly he transformed the station into KMOO and the powerful community oriented station it is now.  He was a great man, great husband (he loved Ingrid with all his heart) and a wonderful father (Brazos, Haley and Wyatt were his pride and joy). We often talked about our kids and what was going on in their lives.  He was without a doubt one of the biggest community warriors for all of East Texas and was a huge supporter of my 4-H programs in Wood and Van Zandt County.  I like other people are so much richer having known him. Heaven is a little sweeter with him there.

There are certain bright stars whose light will shine both for those who notice and for those who don’t. That kind of light shines for others as much as for self, not in complaining or grumbling ways but in grateful, joyful, and humble ways. In my experience Jason was one of those bright stars. It is redundant to say that he is missed or will be missed. Momentarily our part of the world is not so bright. It is needful now that others should shine.

To everyone at the station;  I just heard the news. My heart goes out to Jason's family, and to all of you. Jason was one of the broadcasters we all looked up to. If more owners, managers, air personalities, and sales executives were like Jason, the industry would shine. His integrity, passion, and compassion preceded him everywhere he went. He was a fighter, a man of honor, and a good Christian with a smile for everyone... and because of his strong faith, Jason is missed, but not missing.

To Ingrid, the children and the Hightower, Hanson and KMOO families,

Jason and his family including the KMOO family are very special to my entire family. I started working for his Dad when Jason was 4 years old, so we go back a long way. I have so many stories as many of us do. One of the first times that I met Jason was when his family cooked dinner for my family, and after dinner Jason asked Tony if he wanted to go fishing across the road from their house. Of course Tony said yes, and I can still remember looking out the window of their house and seeing the small boy standing next to my tall husband and you could tell they were having a very in depth conversation, of which they kept to themselves.

It went from there to him playing a song on KMOO for our anniversary, that I am sure no one else has ever had played for their anniversary. (My bucket has a hole in it!!) That is another story, a funny one, but a very long one. I want to say to the family that we loved Jason very much and he will be missed by our family. To his parents, you did a great job of raising a wonderful man. To his KMOO family, he loved you all very much, and you are awesome for all you have done to keep things going for five years.

To his wife, I will never forget the first time he told me about you and he said  Kathy, I don’t think I love her, I know it, and that said it all. To his children, you made him light up at the mention of your names. He was a great Son, Husband, Father, and Friend and it showed every day of his life. Thank you all for sharing him with us.

My name is Sandy, and I heard about Jason's recent passing. I have been a  fan of Jason's for quite sometime now, and am saddened to hear that He is no  longer with us. I always loved hearing him; he had such a friendly, cheerful voice, and always seemed so positive.  I met Jason once at Walmart, when he and Kenny Smith were doing a broadcast there, and he signed a mug for me. I grew up between Emory and Alba, and KMOO has been a big part of my life. Jason was my favorite announcer, and he was one of my favorite parts of KMOO. The other is the KMOO cow, who greets me some mornings with her friendly, happy, ‘Moooooo!’

I always called home at seven each morning to hear her, and also in hopes of hearing a word or song from Jason.

My prayers are with Jason's family. May God comfort you in this time of grief, and, may Jason's memory live in your hearts and, in the hearts of listeners forever. May our hearts continue to hear his cheerful voice, and friendly smile, which even I, as a blind person, could sense. I still have  the mug that Jason gave me, and will remember him, long after the mug is  gone. May the station reflect Jason's spirit, as you carry on from day to day.

With Prayers, and Christ's love,

Sandy

P.S. Please, keep the KMOO cow mooing. I now live in the Dallas area, and don’t get home that often. I'll still call every weekday morning at 7:A.M.  Just to hear that moo, and get a little piece of home, before starting my day.

Hello, I never got to actually meet Jason, but saw him at live broadcast several times. I live in Quitman and work in Pittsburg, so I listened to him every morning. He would always make me laugh and just the way he said things would make me smile!  He would tell those little kids that called in ‘Hey buddy’ or ‘How you doing little buddy’.....he had a way with kids and I could tell he had a ‘kind and loving spirit’.  I will miss him on the radio and my prayers are with his wife and children.

Dear KMOO staff and friends,

Our Lord and Savior is our only shoulder to lean on in times like these. If Jason could talk to us now he would say it is OK and not to worry about him because he is in the Lord's House now and will never suffer nor die again. Our biggest concern now is his wife and kids. We need to pull together to make sure that we don't overlook his family in grieving his loss of life here on earth. Jason faced his challenges and carried on with life and I am amazed at how courageous he was through it all.

We can't let his courage go in vain and we must take his courage and move on with it. His family needs us right now and will for a long time to come. Please keep us informed of the monetary and other physical needs that would help the family during this time of challenge. Jason obviously has many friends and the true friends will come to meet any challenge that needs to be dealt with. Our Heavenly Father is so good and powerful that he will anoint whoever he pleases to help in this time of need.

Pray Pray Pray for the family and thank God that he ever gave us Jason to enjoy on this earth. He was definitely a blessing to this earth and not a curse! We will miss Jason but, we believers will see him again someday. Stay strong with Faith and Praise God every chance you get. We all owe this to Jason! God Bless all of you and we will get through this with Faith and Prayer. Sincerely,

Jim, Sandi, Jake, and Colt Ross.

Our thoughts and prayers to out to the Hightower family at this time of loss. Jason had been a true advocate for the children of the KMOO listening area. He was always willing to let us have time to inform the public of the events on behalf of the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, serve as Master of Ceremonies at our annual Candlelight Service, encourage donations and do whatever was needed to get the word out for the children. He promoted the Children’s Miracle Network to help those needing medical attention, 4-H events, and numerous other activities involving children. He was a proud loving father, son, and husband. We will miss him so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, wife and beautiful children.  Audrey Cleary

Jason’s positive and energetic impact & influence interjected into the greater East Texas area will most likely never be matched with the same class, dignity and integrity.  We should all aspire to be as well thought of as this man was. He led by example and his passing away will leave a deep longing in East Texas.

God bless Ingrid and children. Anyone that ever met Jason became a better person. The things he did for his community showed his love and devotion to it. I would often run into Jason somewhere in town and it always brightened my day.

My prayers go out to his dearly beloved ones. I know that words can only comfort for a short period, but Jesus is everlasting. Just know that God will be there to comfort you during these hard times.

One of the things I liked most about Jason was that he was never too busy to stop and say hi, or to go out of his way to speak to you when paths crossed. From the remote broadcasts to the phone-in contest, he always had a way to get a laugh out of you. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ingrid and the children. We'll miss you Jason.

Dear Ingrid,

Jason. The man who put me to work and gave me a second chance in life. I have told my testimony so many times and will never forget him. One of the things I've learned as a Baby Christian is that nothing, absolutely nothing happens by chance, and that God has a reason for everything. May you be comforted by His love.

To Jason's sweet and much loved family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Jason put up such a brave battle, he was and is an inspiration to us all. He was such a good guy and very dedicated to his family and his radio! I remember when he was in College Station/Bryan....so dedicated to the music and the artists. Then he bought his own and he never lost that excitement and commitment. He was fun to work with; I always enjoyed my visits with him. My sympathy and prayers are with you all. He will be greatly missed.
