An East Texas father and son have been arrested for theft of copper.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Report, released Monday, on March 5, 7, and 14, the Department conducted an investigation into the theft of copper wire from the XTO Energy Production facility in Hawkins. On all three occasions suspects entered the plant by cutting the security fence and once inside stole large amounts of copper wire. Two suspects were identified during the investigation and on March 17, 45-year-old Patrick Walker, and 20-year-old Brayden Walker of Gladewater were taken into custody. Brayden was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was arrested by Smith County deputies. Patrick was arrested and booked into the Wood County jail for the theft of copper.
Evidence collected at the residence where the Walkers were staying directly links both suspects to these crimes. A 4-wheeler reported stolen from Wood County in 2011 was also recovered at the residence.
Both Walker's are charged with theft of material less than $20,000. More charges are expected.
