A meth lab has been discovered near the Van Zandt/Kaufman county line.

According to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department, investigator’s came across the lab Tuesday while conducting a follow up on a known drug house in the area. When authorities arrived on the property they received information that two men had fled the area moments after police arrived on scene. After smelling what was believed to be cooked methamphetamine authorities received permission to search an out building toward the back of the property.

With the help of the Van Zandt County District Attorney, authorities received a search warrant for the main house on the property. In their search, several bags of a powdery substance believed to be meth were found. Officers from the Mabank Police Department and from Henderson County assisted the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department in the bust.

Charges in this case are currently pending for manufacture and delivery, felon with a firearm, and a parole violation.
