Van Zandt County authorities say they have made a major bust in a crime ring that, in their words, “wreaked havoc on residents of Van Zandt County.” It all began on two weeks ago on September 21, when deputies were dispatched to a location off FM-3227 after a report of home being burglarized. Shortly after deputies left that location, the same deputies were sent to a residence off Cherry Creek on another burglary call. Then around 7:30 p.m. Canton Police Department came stopped two individuals, identified as Brooklynn Nieto and Jeremy Blalock, who were in a vehicle that was reported stolen earlier in the day in Van Zandt County. Officer’s realized that the vehicle was full of possibly stolen items. Canton officers contacted the Sheriff’s Department and stated that they might have located some stolen property from the burglaries earlier in the day. Investigators interviewed the pair and discovered that some of the guns which had stolen near Cherry Creek might be located near the city of Van.
Investigators were able to recover a stolen television outside Grand Saline that was taken in the Cherry Creek burglary and the owner of the firearm stolen in the burglary on FM-3227 was recovered a few days later. One of the individuals that were involved in the burglary on FM-3227 contacted the owner and stated that if he wanted his gun back it would cost him $100.00 and that they had traded the gun for drugs in Dallas. Investigator believe they have recovered most of the stolen items.
Four people have been arrested and two remain at-large, including:
