A small plane crashed near Mineola this morning, injuring the pilot.

The pilot, identified as John Herron, was apparently trying to land his plane at Weisner Field, north of US-80 in Mineola when his plane crashed.

Initial reports indicated the plane may have struck a cow on the ground after repeated attempts to land at the airport.

Herron was reportedly taken by ambulance to a hospital for a laceration to the head and a possible broken leg.  The Federal Aviation Administration is sending an investigator to the crash site this afternoon to continue the investigation.
