New Website to Help Us Live a Healthier Lifestyle

In today’s fast paced world, we often choose convenience over what is best for our bodies. Grab something at a fast food establishment and keep on going. I remember one of our former assistant agents, Denise Stapleton, asking me did I ever eat at any place that didn’t sell fuel? That lifestyle is now taking it’s toll on my points.

Most people know they need to eat better and exercise, but translating that knowledge into action can be harder than it sounds. Texas AgriLife Extension Service has recently unveiled a new initiative to help answer this question. What's for dinner seems to be an ever-persistent question for many people. Our Van Zandt County Family and Consumer Science agent, DeeLee Smith and a couple of other FCS agents in the northern part of Texas have come up with a new “Dinner Tonight” program that provides quick, tasty, cost effective, and nutritious video demonstrations to help people in their quest of living a healthy life.

The twelve (12) videos are housed at http://healthyliving.tamu.edu. Not only can you view the video, but you can also print the recipe to add to your collection. The site also contains a variety of information about AgriLife Extension programs and information related to health and nutrition.

The latest video was done by DeeLee and contains one of her favorite recipes, “Veggies and Bow-Tie Pasta” Other recipes include: Beef Stir Fry, Crock Pot Taco Soup, Hamburger Soup, Beef Italian Pasta, Pork Chops with Tomatoes, Lemon Battered Fish, Three Way Garlic Pasta, Chicken Taco Wraps, Turkey Chili, Hot Alaskan Salmon Melts, and Rice Crust Quiche.

Every Monday a new demonstration is released. If you would like to receive a notification of when a new video is available, email DeeLee Smith at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and you can be added to her notification list.

This is just one of many programs offered by Texas AgriLife Extension Service. The mission of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service is to provide quality, relevant outreach and continuing educational programs and services to the people of Texas. Extension educates Texans in the areas of agriculture, environmental stewardship, youth and adult life skills, human capital and leadership, and community economic development.
