The Hotel Motel tax in Rains County is going up. Commissioners approved a new 7% rate yesterday in, bumping the rate up 3% from the current 4% rate. Commissioner Bob Sisk said he had surveyed several counties in the area who also charged 7% and none of them said it prevented people from staying overnight in the area. Sisk said the additional tax would help fund new marketing initiatives for the county. The county also approved giving 1% of the tax to the hotels and motels that collect the tax, a move Sisk says in allowed by state law to help reimburse the companies own advertising. |
