Winnsboro voters are headed to the polls on Saturday to vote on new funds for the school district. The new tax rate of $1.17, if approved, will generate around $900,000 in additional money for the district. Because the rate is higher than last year, the state requires a tax certification election seeking voter approval. Superintendent Mark Bosold said that $500,000 of the additional revenue would be used for needed repairs to the school’s facilities while another $200,000 would be used to increase pay for teachers and staff. The rest would help cover health care costs and buy a new school bus. The rate is 13 cents more than last year’s rate, although still considerably less than the rate in 2006. Early voting is set to wrap up tomorrow afternoon at the administration offices. The polls will be open for regular voting on Saturday (Oct. 11) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rock gymnasium. |
